Patchy, uneven or thinning facial hair can make it difficult to achieve the beard shape and density you want. PRP and PRF beard treatments use components prepared from your own blood to support existing follicles and encourage healthier facial hair growth.
At LMC – Laser Medical Clinic, PRP and PRF treatments can be customized for the beard, mustache and other areas of facial hair. Because treatment relies on the presence and condition of existing follicles, a consultation is required to determine whether it is appropriate for you.
LMC offers Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) treatments prepared using closed processing systems, including Arthrex ACP®. The protocol selected will depend on your hair-loss pattern, medical history and treatment goals.
A small amount of blood is drawn and processed to isolate a platelet-rich preparation. It is then injected into targeted beard areas to deliver platelets and naturally occurring growth factors around existing hair follicles.
PRP contains concentrated platelets suspended in plasma. PRF also incorporates a fibrin matrix that can support a more gradual release of platelet-derived growth factors. Your clinician will recommend the most appropriate preparation after assessing you.
PRP and PRF may support existing follicles in areas of patchy or thinning growth. They cannot create new follicles where follicles are absent, which is why an assessment is important before treatment.
Potential candidates include adults with uneven beard growth, thinning facial hair or reduced beard density who still have viable follicles in the treatment area. Medical conditions, medications and the underlying cause of hair loss can affect eligibility and results.
Most treatment plans require a series of sessions rather than one appointment. The recommended number and frequency depend on your baseline hair density, response to treatment and individual goals.
Facial hair grows gradually. Some patients may notice changes in beard thickness or coverage after approximately two to three months, while more meaningful changes may take longer. Individual results vary.
A typical appointment takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes, including the blood draw, preparation of the PRP or PRF and targeted injections.
Downtime is generally limited. Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, pinpoint bleeding or bruising can occur around the injection sites and commonly improves within several days.
Standardized clinical photography and HairMetrix® imaging may be used to establish a baseline and monitor changes in visible hair density, shaft thickness and treatment-area coverage.
Depending on your needs, your clinician may discuss topical products or complementary hair-support treatments. Recommendations should be based on your assessment and the cause of your uneven facial-hair growth.
