GentleMax Pro Plus delivers laser energy that is absorbed by pigment in suitable hair. That energy is converted into heat, damaging the targeted follicle and reducing its ability to produce new hair. Because only hairs in the active growth phase respond effectively during each appointment, a series of treatments is required.

Laser hair removal is best described as long-term or permanent hair reduction rather than guaranteed removal of every hair. Hormonal changes, aging, pregnancy, menopause, medications and conditions such as PCOS may contribute to future growth. Occasional maintenance treatments may therefore be needed.

Many suitable clients require at least six treatments. The exact number depends on the treatment area, hair colour, hair thickness, density, skin type, hormonal influences and individual response. Facial and hormonally influenced hair may require eight or more treatments followed by periodic maintenance.

Facial appointments are commonly scheduled approximately four to six weeks apart, while body treatments are generally scheduled six to eight weeks apart. Your schedule may be adjusted according to the treatment area and the pattern of visible regrowth.

GentleMax Pro Plus can be used across Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI when the appropriate wavelength and settings are selected following an assessment. The 755 nm Alexandrite wavelength is commonly selected for suitable lighter skin tones, while the 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength provides an adaptable option for darker skin tones.

Skin tone and hair colour are different considerations. Coarse, dark hair usually responds best because it contains more pigment for the laser to target. Blonde, red, grey and white hair contains little or no target pigment and generally responds poorly or not at all. Recent tanning may also make treatment unsafe and require postponement.

Sensation varies according to the treatment area, hair density, hair thickness, laser settings and individual sensitivity. Most clients describe each pulse as a quick snap, brief heat or prickling sensation. Areas containing coarse or densely concentrated hair may feel more sensitive.

Shave the treatment area approximately 24–48 hours before your appointment unless your provider gives different instructions. Shaving removes surface hair while leaving the hair shaft and follicle beneath the skin available for the laser to target. Longer surface hair can absorb unnecessary energy and make treatment less comfortable.

• Avoid waxing, plucking, threading and electrolysis for at least four to six weeks.
• Avoid tanning beds, deliberate tanning, excessive sun exposure and self-tanner.
• Arrive with clean skin free from makeup, deodorant, lotion, oils and fragrance.

Temporary redness, warmth, sensitivity and swelling around treated follicles are common and usually settle within several hours to a few days. Most clients can return to normal non-strenuous activities, but the treated skin should be protected from heat, friction and irritation while it recovers.

Avoid tanning, direct sun, hot tubs, saunas, strenuous exercise and irritating skincare until the area has settled. Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher on exposed skin. Less common risks include burns, blistering, crusting, pigment changes, infection, scarring and, rarely, increased hair growth. Laser hair removal can reduce suitable coarse, pigmented facial and body hair associated with PCOS, but it does not treat the underlying hormonal condition. Because PCOS may continue to stimulate new growth, additional initial treatments and ongoing maintenance may be required.

Reducing coarse hair may also decrease recurring ingrown hairs and shaving-related bumps around the face, neck, bikini area and underarms.
