Who Is a Good Candidate for PRP Hair Treatment?

PRP hair treatment may be appropriate for men and women experiencing early to moderate hair thinning while the hair follicles are still active. During your consultation, we assess your scalp, hair-loss pattern, medical history, and treatment goals before recommending a personalized plan.

Before and after PRP hair treatment for male pattern hair loss and receding hairline

Male Pattern Hair Loss

PRP may help men experiencing androgenetic alopecia, including a receding hairline, thinning crown, or reduced hair density. Treatment is generally most appropriate during the early to moderate stages while viable follicles remain.

Before and after PRP hair treatment for female pattern hair thinning and widening part line

Female Pattern Hair Thinning

Women experiencing diffuse thinning, reduced hair density, or a widening part line may be candidates for PRP. The underlying cause of hair loss should be assessed before beginning treatment.

Hairbrush showing excessive hair shedding before PRP treatment and reduced shedding afterward

Excessive Hair Shedding

Patients experiencing increased or persistent hair shedding may benefit from PRP after an assessment identifies the possible cause and confirms that active hair follicles are present.

Before and after PRP hair treatment used to support hair transplant results

Support Before or After a Hair Transplant

PRP may be used before or after hair transplantation to support scalp recovery, maintain existing hair, and improve the overall appearance of hair density as part of a broader restoration plan.

Not Sure If You're a Candidate?

Every type of hair loss is different. During your complimentary consultation, we'll evaluate your scalp, review your medical history, discuss possible causes of your hair loss, and determine whether PRP, PRF, or another treatment is the most appropriate option for your goals.

Treatment Process

How PRP Hair Restoration Works

PRP hair restoration use regenerative components from your own blood to support scalp health, active follicles, and healthier-looking hair growth over time.

01

Scalp Assessment

Your provider reviews your hair loss pattern, scalp condition, medical history, and goals. HairMetrix AI imaging may be used to measure density and track progress.

02

Blood Draw

A small amount of your blood is collected and processed using the selected PRP or PRF system based on your treatment plan.

03

PRP/PRF Preparation

The blood is processed to separate and concentrate regenerative components such as platelets, plasma, or fibrin matrix depending on the chosen protocol.

04

Scalp Treatment

The prepared PRP or PRF is injected into targeted scalp areas where active follicles are still present and support is needed.

05

Recovery & Aftercare

A complete appointment typically takes about one hour, requires no general anesthesia, and most patients can return to work or normal activities the same day. Mild tenderness, redness, or sensitivity may occur temporarily.

06

Progress Tracking

Results develop gradually. A treatment series is usually recommended, and progress can be monitored with follow-up photos or scalp analysis.

Stop Guessing. Measure Your Hair.

PRP Hair Treatment Progress You Can Actually Measure

Lighting, camera angles and hairstyling can make ordinary before-and-after photos look dramatically different. HairMetrix® AI trichoscopy goes beyond appearances by measuring changes in your hair and scalp over time.

At LMC, we do not simply ask whether your hair “looks better.” We establish an objective baseline before treatment and compare it with follow-up measurements throughout your personalized PRP or PRF hair-restoration plan.

  • Measures hair density and follicular units
  • Tracks changes in hair-shaft calibre
  • Calculates the terminal-to-vellus ratio
  • Compares baseline and follow-up results
  • Helps identify when a treatment plan should be reassessed

A clinic should be able to show you more than a sales pitch. HairMetrix® provides measurable data that helps you understand whether meaningful changes are occurring.

A complimentary HairMetrix® AI analysis, valued at $199, is included with eligible PRP or PRF package purchases.

Four PRP & PRF Levels. One Serious Hair Restoration Strategy.

Stop Settling for Generic PRP. Your Hair Loss Deserves Better.

Most PRP treatments start with the machine. LMC starts with you. We offer four distinct levels of regenerative hair treatment — RegenLab® PRP, Arthrex ACP® Fluid PRF, LMC’s Arthrex ACP Max™ PRF protocol and Arthrex Angel® PRP — so our clinicians are not forced to give every patient the same preparation, concentration or treatment strategy.

One patient. One scalp. One treatment plan — not one PRP protocol for everyone.

Hair loss is not a single condition. Early thinning, progressive androgenetic alopecia, diffuse loss, reduced density and maintenance after previous treatment can require very different thinking. LMC can move between four treatment levels based on what your hair and scalp actually need.

Comparison of RegenLab PRP, Arthrex ACP Fluid PRF, LMC Arthrex ACP Max PRF and Arthrex Angel PRP hair restoration treatments
Level Protocol Why It Matters Who It May Suit
Level I — Essential RegenLab® PRP Standardized leucocyte-reduced PRP A proven starting point — without unnecessary escalation. RegenLab® provides a standardized closed-system PRP preparation designed for consistent platelet recovery while keeping red blood cell contamination low. Often considered for maintenance, earlier-stage thinning or patients where a straightforward PRP protocol is clinically appropriate.
Level II — Natural PRF Arthrex ACP® Fluid PRF Anticoagulant-free fluid PRF No added anticoagulant. No synthetic separation material. ACP® Fluid PRF offers a different biological approach to conventional anticoagulated PRP while retaining a natural fibrin component. Considered when LMC wants a fully autologous, anticoagulant-free fluid PRF approach based on the patient’s assessment and treatment goals.
Level III — Advanced PRF Arthrex ACP Max™ PRF LMC advanced ACP Max™ PRF protocol This is where LMC moves beyond entry-level regenerative treatment. Our ACP Max™ PRF level is used when the clinical plan calls for a more intensive PRF strategy rather than a standard maintenance protocol. Selected patients where LMC wants to step up treatment intensity, address a larger treatment area or use a more advanced PRF protocol following clinical assessment.
Level IV — Flagship Arthrex Angel® PRP Highly concentrated, customizable automated PRP LMC’s most advanced PRP treatment. Angel® uses fully automated processing and proprietary three-sensor technology to give clinicians precise control over the final PRP composition. Platelet and leukocyte levels can be adjusted according to the selected protocol rather than relying on one fixed preparation. Selected patients where LMC wants its highest level of control over PRP preparation, cellular composition, concentration and treatment strategy.
Level IV isn’t simply “more PRP.” It gives us more control. The Arthrex Angel® System can prepare highly concentrated, customized PRP rather than forcing every patient into the same fixed formulation.
Find My Treatment Level
The goal isn’t to give you the most expensive treatment. It’s to give you the right one.

More platelets do not automatically mean more hair. More expensive does not automatically mean better. What matters is matching the regenerative protocol to the patient. LMC assesses your hair-loss pattern, scalp condition, remaining follicle activity, treatment area, medical history, previous treatments and goals before recommending a level.

Why Four Systems?

Because “PRP Is PRP” Is Simply Not Good Enough.

Different preparation systems can produce different platelet concentrations, cellular profiles and treatment volumes. If a clinic only offers one system, every patient has to fit that system. LMC has another option: fit the system to the patient.

01

Start With Diagnosis

Throwing PRP at every type of hair loss is not a treatment strategy. We first assess what is causing your thinning and whether active follicles remain that may respond to regenerative treatment.

02

Match the Protocol

Standard PRP, anticoagulant-free fluid PRF, advanced PRF or customizable automated PRP — LMC can select the level that makes clinical sense rather than defaulting to the only machine available.

03

Focus on the Result

The machine is not the goal. Better density, stronger-looking hair, reduced visible thinning and preserving existing follicles are what patients care about. The technology exists to support that treatment strategy.

Want the highest-spec PRP option at LMC? Meet Angel®.

Arthrex Angel® sits at the top of our PRP range for a reason. Its automated three-sensor technology enables customized PRP preparation with adjustable platelet and leukocyte concentrations. The system can process substantially larger blood volumes than many basic PRP systems and is capable of producing highly concentrated PRP. For selected patients, that gives LMC a level of control that standard fixed-protocol PRP simply cannot offer.

Don’t choose your treatment from a price list. Find out what level your hair actually needs. Your consultation is where we assess the problem first and recommend the treatment second.

Not All PRP Is the Same

Why the PRP or PRF System Matters for Hair Restoration

PRP and PRF systems are not interchangeable. The preparation method affects platelet concentration, cellular composition, fibrin content and treatment volume.

LMC offers RegenLab® PRP, Arthrex ACP® PRF, ACP MAX PRF and Angel® 7% PRP so the treatment system can be selected according to your scalp, hair-loss pattern, blood values and clinical assessment.

Angel® 7%: Customizable High-Concentration PRP

The automated Arthrex Angel system uses three-sensor technology and adjustable settings to customize platelet concentration, leukocyte content and final PRP composition. Arthrex reports concentrations of up to 18 times baseline, depending on system settings and individual blood characteristics.

Compare more than price. Ask which system is being used, how the PRP or PRF is prepared and why that protocol was selected for you.

PRP Hair Treatment F.A.Q

What is PRP hair treatment and how does it work?

PRP hair treatment is a non-surgical hair-restoration procedure that uses platelet-rich plasma prepared from your own blood. The PRP is injected into selected areas of the scalp where active hair follicles are still present.

The goal is practical: support existing follicles, reduce excessive shedding and improve the appearance of hair density or thickness in appropriately selected patients. PRP does not create new follicles, permanently cure pattern hair loss or guarantee regrowth.

Does PRP work for hair loss?

PRP may improve hair density and reduce shedding in selected patients, particularly those with early to moderate androgenetic alopecia, also called male or female pattern hair loss. Results are generally more achievable while viable follicles remain.

The honest answer is that PRP does not work equally well for every person or every cause of hair loss. Diagnosis, follicle health, medical factors, treatment consistency and individual response all affect the outcome. That is why LMC assesses your scalp before recommending treatment and tracks progress instead of relying on promises.

Who is a good candidate for PRP hair treatment?

The strongest candidates for PRP hair treatment generally have active follicles with early to moderate thinning, increased shedding, reduced density or pattern hair loss that has not progressed to complete follicle loss.

This may include men with crown thinning or a receding hairline and women with diffuse thinning or a widening part. Earlier assessment usually provides more treatment options. Hair loss related to iron deficiency, thyroid conditions, hormonal changes, medications, illness or postpartum shedding may require medical evaluation before PRP is considered.

Who should not receive PRP or PRF hair treatment?

PRP or PRF may not be appropriate for patients with an active scalp infection, certain blood or platelet disorders, severe thrombocytopenia, uncontrolled medical conditions, significant immunosuppression or current chemotherapy.

Treatment may also be postponed during pregnancy or breastfeeding according to clinic policy. Tell your provider about all medical conditions, medications, supplements and previous hair-loss diagnoses. Eligibility is determined through an individual assessment, not an online checklist.

Can PRP regrow hair in completely bald areas or permanently cure hair loss?

No. PRP cannot create new follicles or permanently cure genetic pattern hair loss. It works by supporting follicles that are still present and capable of producing hair.

If an area is completely smooth, scarred or has permanent follicle loss, PRP is unlikely to restore meaningful growth. Patients with viable but weakened follicles may have a better opportunity to improve shedding, density or hair quality. Maintenance treatment or other medical hair-loss therapies may be needed to help preserve improvements.

How many PRP hair treatment sessions are normally needed?

Many patients begin with approximately three to five PRP or PRF sessions, commonly spaced about four to eight weeks apart. Maintenance sessions may be recommended after the initial series based on the patient’s response and hair-loss pattern.

The correct number is not the same for everyone. It depends on the cause and stage of hair loss, follicle viability, scalp area, selected treatment system, medical factors and measurable response. LMC builds the plan around the assessment rather than selling the same package to every patient.

When can I expect PRP hair results, and how long may they last?

PRP hair-restoration results develop gradually because hair grows in cycles. Some patients notice less shedding first, while visible changes in density, coverage or hair thickness may require several months and a complete initial treatment series.

Results vary and cannot be guaranteed. Improvements may last longer when the underlying cause of hair loss is addressed and the recommended treatment and maintenance schedule is followed. Progress should be evaluated with standardized photographs and objective measurements, not memory or day-to-day mirror checks.

How does LMC measure whether PRP hair treatment is working?

LMC uses standardized photographs and HairMetrix® AI trichoscopy to measure progress when appropriate. HairMetrix can assess hair density, follicular units, hair-shaft calibre and the terminal-to-vellus ratio so baseline measurements can be compared with future assessments.

Ordinary before-and-after photographs can be influenced by lighting, camera angle, styling and hair length. Objective tracking helps determine whether meaningful change is occurring and when a treatment plan should be continued, modified or reassessed. A complimentary HairMetrix analysis, valued at $199, is included with eligible PRP or PRF package purchases.

What is the difference between PRP and PRF for hair loss?

PRP and PRF are prepared from your own blood, but they differ in processing and final composition. PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma and has been studied more extensively for androgenetic alopecia. PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin and forms a natural fibrin matrix without an added anticoagulant.

Neither option is automatically better for every patient. The appropriate choice depends on your hair-loss pattern, follicle health, treatment area, medical history and provider assessment. LMC offers both so the recommendation can be based on your case instead of being limited to the only system a clinic owns.

Compare PRP and PRF hair restoration in more detail.

Is PRP hair treatment painful, and what are the side effects and downtime?

PRP hair injections can cause temporary pressure, pinching or scalp discomfort. Sensitivity varies, and available comfort options can be discussed before treatment. Eligible patients may request patient-controlled Pro-Nox® nitrous oxide and oxygen support after screening and consent.

Common temporary effects may include tenderness, redness, swelling, sensitivity, minor bruising or a mild headache. Most patients can return to routine activities the same day. Less common risks include infection, bleeding, scarring, nerve or blood-vessel injury and an unsatisfactory response. Your provider will review the risks before treatment.

How should I prepare for PRP, and what aftercare is required?

Before PRP hair treatment, follow the preparation instructions provided by LMC, stay well hydrated and arrive with a clean scalp. You may be advised to avoid alcohol and smoking around the appointment.

Tell your provider about all medications and supplements, especially anticoagulants, antiplatelet medications and anti-inflammatory drugs. Do not stop prescribed medication unless instructed by the prescribing clinician.

After treatment, you may be advised to temporarily avoid touching or washing the scalp, intense exercise, alcohol, smoking, harsh hair products and heat styling. Your instructions may vary according to the treatment performed and your scalp response.

How much does PRP hair treatment cost in Toronto and Richmond Hill, and is it covered by OHIP?

PRP hair treatment at LMC starts at $500 per session, with package pricing available. The total cost depends on the selected PRP or PRF system, number of sessions, treatment area and whether additional services are clinically appropriate.

Compare more than the cheapest advertised session. Ask which preparation system is being used, what the treatment includes, who performs it, how progress is measured and what the expected total initial-series cost will be. LMC publishes its regular prices so patients can compare the actual treatment value before booking.

PRP and PRF hair treatments are generally not covered by OHIP because they are normally considered elective treatments. Private insurance coverage is uncommon and should be confirmed directly with your insurer. Eligible purchases of $1,500 or more may qualify for six-month 0% Affirm financing, subject to approval and applicable terms. View current PRP and PRF pricing.
